The Chaos Computer Club e. V. (CCC) is Europe's largest association of hackers. For more than forty years we are providing information about technical and societal issues, such as surveillance, privacy, freedom of information, hacktivism, data security, and hacking. As the most influential hacker collective in Europe we organize campaigns, events, lobbying and publications as well as anonymizing services and communication infrastructure. There are many hackerspaces in and around Germany which belong to or share a common bond to the CCC as stated in our hacker ethics.

New proof for surveillance: CCC extends legal complaints against intelligence services and German government
Investigations by Federal Prosecutor General Harald Range are becoming more urgent after new publications expose data collection explicitly targeting at least one of the Tor servers operated by the Chaos Computer Club (CCC) in Germany, feeding the data of the users directly into the surveillance systems of the NSA. The CCC is extending the existing legal complaint against those responsible at the intelligence services and the German government with the new facts and requests to prosecute the illegal intelligence activity against the CCC and all affected users of the anonymization network Tor. more …

CCC und FSFE: Bundesnetzagentur muß nachbessern
Nach mehreren öffentlichen Anhörungen und politischen Debatten hat die Bundesnetzagentur Mitte Februar einen Verordnungsentwurf präsentiert, der den Routerzwang abschaffen und die Transparenz für Kunden von Telekommunikationsunternehmen verbessern soll. Der Routerzwang bindet Kunden an ein vom Provider geliefertes Gerät. Die Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE), der Chaos Computer Club (CCC), die Projektleitung von IPFire und OpenWrt sowie weitere Experten haben diese Verordnung begutachtet und eine Stellungnahme an die Bundesnetzagentur abgegeben. more …
Cache Poisoning Attack auf offenen DNS-Resolver des CCC Berlin
Der vom Chaos Computer Club (CCC) betriebene offene DNS-Resolver war heute früh Ziel eines Angriffs Unbekannter, die durch das Ausnutzen von Schwächen im DNS-Protokoll den Zwischenspeicher des Programms mit gefälschten Einträgen befüllten. In der Folge wurden diese fehlerhafte Antworten auf Anfragen nach bestimmten Domains an alle Benutzer ausgegeben, die den DNS-Server des CCC in ihren Systemen eingetragen haben. Zu keiner Zeit konnten sich die Angreifer Zugang zum Server verschaffen. Als Reaktion hat der CCC eine neue Software installiert, die nicht für die Attacken anfällig ist. State of the art is not enough: CCC demands independent evaluation of IT-securiy in the power grid
On Friday, the consultation phase for the proposed IT security catalogue [0] ends. The catalogue, presented by the German Federal Network Agency (FNA, "Bundesnetzagentur"), proposes regulations for electrical grid operators. Its goal is to secure the IT systems necessary for operating the power grid against attacks. However, the proposed measures primarily protect the grid operators' purses. The risk assessment is left to be done by the operators themselves - a fatal flaw, since conflicting interests are obvious. Instead of the operators' financial interests, the measure for the necessity for security measures should be the economical damage of a blackout. Therefore, the Chaos Computer Club demands the establishment of an independent organization to assess risks and to supervise the security measures. more …
