The Chaos Computer Club e. V. (CCC) is Europe's largest association of hackers. For more than forty years we are providing information about technical and societal issues, such as surveillance, privacy, freedom of information, hacktivism, data security, and hacking. As the most influential hacker collective in Europe we organize campaigns, events, lobbying and publications as well as anonymizing services and communication infrastructure. There are many hackerspaces in and around Germany which belong to or share a common bond to the CCC as stated in our hacker ethics.
Datenspuren 2009 – Call for Papers
Wir schreiben das Jahr 2009. Nach Lidl kommen weitere deutsche Großunternehmen durch Überwachungsskandale in die Schlagzeilen. Hinzu kommen Maßnahmen der Bundesregierung zur Überwachung der Bürger: Gesundheitskarte, elektronischer Personalausweis, Vorratsdatenspeicherung. Die SIGINT09 ist eine Konferenz zu den Diskursen im digitalen Zeitalter, veranstaltet vom Chaos Computer Club im KOMED, Mediapark Köln, vom 22. bis 24. Mai 2009. Ihr erklärtes Ziel ist es, all diejenigen zusammenzubringen, zu überraschen und zu erleuchten, die sich für den spielerischen und intelligenten Umgang mit Computern, Netzwerken, Kunst, Politik und Gesellschaft interessieren und einsetzen wollen. Federal Constitutional Court Stops Electronic Voting Roulette
The Federal Constitutional Court decided today that the use of voting computers is unconstitutional. Rather, elections in Germany must be understandable by everyone without any special knowledge. The court declared the constitutional principle of a public voting process a fundamental requirement for democratic elections. This was the core issue on which the CCC campaigned against voting computers. Conversely, the court determined that speedy election results are not a requirement for democratic elections. The NEDAP voting computers, as used in Germany so far, will be consigned to the scrap heap of history. more …

Chaos Computer Club urges politicians to respect freedom in the internet
The Telecom Package is an extensive collection of new rulings devised by the European Parliament with the intention to protect consumers' rights in the telecommunications sector. In addition to many welcome innovations to the benefit of consumers, the package also includes new rulings enabling authorities to persecute users of file-sharing platforms and establish Internet filtering measures. In anticipation of these powers German politicians are planning the establishment of an extensive infrastructure for Internet censorship. more …
